When Shevonne Chin founded Flik FX in 2021, she was driven by a unique business approach: What if the sky itself could become a canvas for storytelling, one that brought people together in moments of awe?
That idea became Flik FX. By blending choreography, technology and creativity, Chin transforms drone swarms into immersive brand experiences that feel as emotional as they are innovative. What she calls “Sky Real Estate™” is more than a new advertising space–she sees it as “a new media channel in the sky, where storytelling can be programmed, sequenced, and activated with intent.”
A Defining Moment
Before Flik FX, Chin was working in custom fireworks, an experience that shaped how she thought about risk and responsibility. Every show required absolute precision and every decision carried weight. “Fireworks give you a moment,” Chin says. “Drones give you momentum.”
Chin wasn’t just interested in creating one-off fireworks shows, she wanted to build something more enduring. As she watched drone shows emerge globally, she saw more than a new form of entertainment. She saw potential: a chance to help organizations tell their stories in a way that felt intentional, repeatable and meaningful.
Her professional background made that leap possible. Chin holds advanced certifications in drone piloting, pyrotechnics and fireworks supervision and she’s also an approved trainer in fireworks certification.
“Confidence in regulated industries isn’t a personality trait, it’s earned,” she says. That credibility allowed her to operate at the intersection of aviation discipline and creative technology, where mistakes aren’t an option and execution must be flawless.

Building With Purpose
Chin’s leadership philosophy is also shaped by her advocacy for diversity and representation in aerospace and STEM. “Representation isn’t a slogan–it’s a systems problem,” she says. With women making up a small fraction of pilots and aviation professionals in Canada, Chin sees her role as both a founder and a builder of access.
Flik FX actively engages in mentorship, community workshops and partnerships with libraries, accelerator programs, and industry organizations. “If you can see it, you can be it,” she says. “And if you can be it, you can build it.” That ethos has helped define Flik FX as a Black-owned, woman-powered company that pairs technical excellence with community impact.
Navigating An Emerging Industry
Launching a business in a category that didn’t yet exist in the mainstream Canadian market came with challenges. “We weren’t just introducing a service, we were introducing a new mental model,” Chin explains. Early reactions often stopped at novelty. Her job was to translate “cool” into “clear.”
That meant helping brands understand objectives, creative sequencing, activation logic and measurement. By treating the sky as premium inventory and designing activations as full marketing campaigns with reporting and engagement metrics, Flik FX differentiated itself from entertainment-first competitors.
Scaling With Confidence
As Flik FX grew, so did its capital and infrastructure needs, from fleet readiness and software workflows to insurance, logistics and staffing. That’s where BMO became part of Chin’s broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Looking Ahead
For Chin, the next three to five years are about category leadership. Flik FX is preparing to scale nationally and internationally, with premium activations designed for moments when public attention peaks. “We’re not chasing a trend,” she says. “We’re shaping a category.”
Her advice for entrepreneurs launching in niche or regulated industries? “Dream bigger than your environment. Get trained. Respect the process. Build systems so your success is repeatable.”
