My new login information doesn't work
If you have received an email with your email address and new password to be used on CanadianBusiness.com, but when you enter the sign-in information provided, it doesn't work, it could be for one of the following reasons:
 |
Cookies are not enabled in your browser. For your sign-in information to be validated by the Power Portfolio, you must have cookies enabled in your browser. Please refer to How do I enable cookies to allow me access to my Power Portfolio? above. |
 |
You generated and received a new password using the "Forgot my password" link on the sign-in page, but are still trying to sign in using an old password. |
 |
You are not entering your email address and/or password exactly as indicated in your email notification. Please note that you cannot enter spaces before, in the middle of, or at the end of your email address or password, and that your password is case-sensitive, which means that all letters must be entered in the same case as shown in the email. |

I think I registered How do I know for sure?
Once you have finished registering with us, we automatically send an email to the address you entered when registering. When the email arrives, click on the confirmation link contained within it. We'll then send you a second email that contains your new password. If you do not receive this email, check your email program's default spam diversion folders. If you still can't find it, try requesting another password on the Forgot my password page. I hate my password. Can I change it?
Yes you can. The password we send you when you register with us is alphanumeric for added security. It is case sensitive and must be entered EXACTLY as shown.
If you find it difficult to remember or to transcribe your password, consider copying and pasting it into a text file. Whenever you need to sign in, open your text file and copy your password from the text file into the appropriate box.(Just make sure you don't copy any additional spaces.)
If security matters less to you than convenience, change your password to one of your choosing. Sign into the My Profile page using the link at the bottom of any CanadianBusiness.com page. Replace the existing password in the "Password" and "Re-type Password" boxes with your preferred new password. Click the "Update profile" button to save the change.

What if I forgot my password?

What is a watchlist and how is it different from the Power Portfolio?
Think of a watchlist as a "portfolio lite". A watchlist is ideal if you only want to track the share or unit price of a security(nominal or percentage)and don't need more information than that. The watchlist is quick and easy to set up and to change you don't need to register or to sign in to see it. To see the watchlist, visit our markets channel and scroll down the page. It appears near the right-hand side.

I was unaware I was registered with Canadian Business Online
If you don't recall ever creating an account, it is most likely because we created an account for you after you
 |
registered for a Canadian Business Online contest |
 |
subscribed to Canadian Business magazine |
 |
attended a trade show or event where Canadian Business was host or an exhibitor |
 |
registered with another Rogers Media Web site |
Please note that Canadian Business Online will not create an account without your consent. In the situations just described, you actively indicated your consent to an account being created for you, most likely by checking a box on a registration or subscription form. If you are registered with another Web site owned by Rogers Media, you will also have a Canadian Business Online account.
It is also possible that you switched ISPs and inherited a defunct email address whose previous owner had registered with MoneySense.ca. You may then find yourself receiving e-newsletters from us that you never personally requested. If you feel this is what may have happened to you, follow these steps How do I subscribe to/unsubscribe from one or more e-newsletters?
If you wish your account to be deleted(which will include all newsletter subscriptions, all portfolios and access to posting in the forums), please send your email address to help@canadianbusiness.com and use the phrase "Please remove permanently from database" in the subject line.

Help I get a "500 Internal Server Error" message when I try to sign in
Some registered members of the Canadian Business Online community may get a page saying "500 Internal Server Error" and "java.lang.NullPointerException" followed by some lines of code when they try to sign in. This is a bug that an upcoming database upgrade will address.
In the meantime, if this happens to you, send us an email at help@canadianbusiness.com and use the phrase "500 Internal Server Error" in the subject line and we'll fix it for you.

A note about spyware
Canadian Business Online does not use spyware.
Spyware is a hidden software application capable of collecting and reporting information about your Internet browsing habits to advertisers. Spyware is usually installed on your computer without your knowledge, often while you download free software from the Web or use Internet file sharing programs. The data it collects can then be used to send targeted ads, often in the form of intrusive pop-up windows, to your Web browser as you surf.
Many kinds of software and tools are available to help protect your PC against spyware. Your Internet Service Provider may be able to help identify a preferred anti-spyware application.
